The Place We're Touched Poem Nikki Bennett Poems

 'Love Shines Beyond Grief’

In previous collections, Nikki  has touched on subjects not everyone would write about. So, too, in this collection she expresses feelings not often publicly mentioned: the depths of many kinds of grieving  - its joy as well as its sadness.

Anyone who has experienced loss and grief, and lived on, will identify with this ‘blend of poems that together make a powerful statement.’ (Phil Carradice).

Example

No Substitute

The daffodils that had
opened and shone
their yellow and orange,
next to your photo,
have shrivelled and
hung their tissue-paper heads,
when I wasn’t looking.

I put a bookmark picture
of a bluebell wood there,
as a substitute.

There’s no comparison;
but then the photo itself
is no substitute.
